Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones

Stepping Ttones captured at the South Island's Lake Tekapo, actually... captured IN Lake tekapo as I had my trousers rolled up to me knees to get to the point I wanted for this show and yes, the water was a tad cold. I love Tekapo, you'll no doubt notice that time and again as you go through the site and the images. It's such a wonderful place full of stunning beauty and has a lovely calm about it.

I love the clearness of the water and the sky here, they just seem to balance nicely for me with the hills and tree's in the middle creating a nice separation.

It's actually a faily old image to be honest but it's on of those imaegs that every time i see it I love it. So much so that I have a 1.5 meter wide canvas version up on my wall at home.

Funky Shoes

So these are my daughters shoes, her second pair of shoes to be exact as she was only about 14 months old at the time of owning there.

I was playing with my new 50mm lens and was looking to do something a little different from my norm, Landscapes being my norm. I saw them laying around and actually spent a good 5 minutes just looking at them and trying to figure out what to do before picking up the camera. I didn't move the shoes I just hunkered down on my belly and off I went. 5 minutes later i had my daughter climbing on my back wanting to play and see the pictures on the camera. I spent about 30 mins playing with this in Photoshop (yes I do use it from time to time) and got to the image that I had in my head. I have to say i quite like it & think it's a little quirky, but that could just be me.

Ian

This is Ian, or grand dad as my daughter calls him.

It was actually  a grab shot I took while we were visiting and he was heading out doors with the little one dragging him along. I converted to B&W using Silver Efex for Photoshop and did a bit of tidying up of the image to loose the door frame and things like that. I love this image, I think it gives a great impression of him. He is a fantastic person, wonderful grand dad who just dots on our wee girl and for me you get all that and a whole lot more from his face.

The Path

I was out photographing detail stuff for a photo project i was working on and had really had enough. It was a bit wet, a bit cold and I, at the time, didn't really like many of the images I had got that day. After about 5 mins drivng along the beach road I saw this path heading away

through the grass back to the beach and I was going to head over and see if there was anything worth while shooting there. I actually stopped to tie my shoelace and looked up and saw, well this scene. it's obviously had a little bit of Photoshop tinkering in a bit to bring it more to what I felt that day rather than just what was there. I Love this image, it just takes me up the path, looking at all of the dried grass and wondering what broke it from the stalks, what is behind the path....

Serious Grip

I was photographing a Harley Davidson's Owners Club rally with a photography club I am in and saw this mean machine..,

Well actually we saw thousands but I loved the back end on this thing. It's hard to describe the noise you hear around these things but when you looks at the tyres and think how much grip these things must have to hold onto the speed that they have... WOW. for this image for me, it was all about that tyre, the texture, ridges, wear on it, just how imposing the darn thing was, I loved it. As you can see I was way down on my stomach to get this image, thankfully a hot dry day, but really even if it was wet, it would have been worth it.

Mountains Glow

This is again down in Tekapo and is quite possibly one of my favourite images I've ever made.

I can just look at it for ages, I love the calmness of the water which is Lake Alexandrina , I love the size of the mountains which ok they are bang central in the image which your not supposed to do but they work there and the sky is giving just the right amount of ... go on, I dare you to make them interesting I think. This was one of probably about 300 images I captured that weekend and of that I think I liked about 8 of them in the end, this is by really my favourite. I think I like it so much because strangely for a city boy (I grew up in Glasgow) this is my idea of perfection. Stunning landscapes, clear air and no one else around to spoil the shot.
